Thiruvananthapuram: Local self-govt minister M B Rajesh has announced concessions for small houses built on land up to two cents in municipal and corporation areas. He said that for houses up to 100 square meters (1,076sq ft) built on land up to two cents within corporation or municipal limits, if the road in front is up to 3m, the frontage setback will be reduced to 1m through an amendment in the rules. This concession will be granted to those families who have no other suitable land for residential purposes, subject to conditions.

Previously, the front setback from the road was set at 2m for larger plots and 1.8m for plots below 3 cents. The decision has been taken to amend KMBR 2019 Rule 26(4), 28(3) to provide this concession.

The minister said this will benefit thousands of families across the state. This rule amendment will be beneficial for those who have not received a house number yet for small houses built on small plots in cities. The minister said that the govt’s aim is to transform the local self-govt system to be so efficient that adalats are not needed for pending complaints.
