Pune: Baramati MP and NCP (SCP) working president Supriya Sule on Friday claimed that Mahayuti govt was spending over Rs200 crore on advertisements but was not providing adequate funds for women and children's safety. Supriya visited the school in Daund where an alleged sexual harassment of a student by a teacher was reported. While she lauded the efforts of the Pune Rural police for acting swiftly on a complaint and arresting the accused, she accused state govt of being insensitive towards women and children's safety.

"In the past eight to 10 days, several cases of sexual abuse have been reported from various parts of the state. The home minister of the state should show more sensitivity towards such cases. The women are now saying that they want security, and not Rs1,500 a month through the govt's Ladki Bahin scheme.

State govt is ready to spend Rs200 crore on its advertisements. However, it does not spend money on police and schools to ensure women and children's safety," Supriya said. "Govt should ensure trial of the Daund school sexual harassment case by a fast-track court and ensure that the accused gets the death penalty.

The chief minister is boasting of ensuring death penalty for a convict within two months. If it is true, he should ensure similar punishment within two months for all the accused arrested in sexual abuse cases," she said. Citing recent cases of crimes, Supriya claimed that the fear of law "is vanishing in society" and she held state govt responsible for it.

"Criminals are now thinking that they can manage everything with money power. They reached the extent of changing the blood samples in the Porsche crash case. The administration has lost its grip.

Had the common people not protested in Badlapur, we would not have seen any action by police," she said..
