Patna : Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said here on Wednesday that the state govt is committed to promoting sports and games in the state. Inaugurating the four-day Chancellor’s Trophy Inter University Kabaddi Competition, 2024 at Patliputra Sports Complex at Kankarbagh, Arlekar, who also is the chancellor of the state universities, observed that the govt has already shown its commitment by creating a separate department of sports. This reflects the far-sightedness of CM Nitish Kumar, he said.
He said the state has already opened a separate sports university to encourage the youths to actively participate in sports and games and excel in these activities at the national and international levels. The chancellor hoisted the flag of the competition and unveiled its trophy. He kick started the inaugural boys’ kabaddi match between B N Mandal University, Madhepura and Veer Kuar Singh University, Ara teams and girls’ kabaddi match between L N Mithila University and Purnea University teams.
He gave away prizes to the best raiders and defenders of both the matches played on Wednesday. State sports minister Surendra Mehta appreciated the chancellor’s initiative for organising the competition. Governor’s principal secretary Robert L Chongthu and vice-chancellors of different universities attended the function.
