The Campaign Legal Center (CLC), a nonprofit government watchdog organization, is urging the US Department Of Transportation 's Office of Inspector General (OIG) to look into whether the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) violated federal conflict of interest laws in its dealings with Elon Musk 's satellite communications company, Starlink . In a letter sent to DOT 's Acting Inspector General Mitch Behm on Thursday, CLC officials raised concerns that Musk's influence over the FAA 's relationship with Starlink could violate conflict of interest laws. According to the organization, Musk's active engagement in pressuring the government to consider using Starlink's services requires an in-depth investigation.

'Possible criminal conflict of interest violation' Kedric Payne, the CLC's vice president, general counsel and senior director of ethics, and Delaney Marsco, the group's ethics director, wrote in the letter: "Publicly available information provides extensive evidence that the FAA's business relationship with Starlink is tainted by Musk’s influence. Musk is a government official with broad authority who acts with direct support from the President. With this authority and support, he has openly criticized the FAA's contractors while directing the agency to test and use his company's services.

These facts establish a possible criminal conflict of interest violation, and an OIG investigation is needed to determine whether the facts constitute a legal violation." Musk's role.
