Gogglebox star Stephen Webb has revealed the very specific reason why he quit the show after a decade. A hairdresser by trade, Stephen first joined the Channel 4 series as one of the original stars in 2013 for season one with Christopher Steed, later giving his verdict on TV shows with his mum Pat Webb, before appearing with now ex-husband Daniel Lustig from 2019 until 2023. When announcing their departure last year , the pair said they felt ‘the time is right to move on and explore other opportunities ’.

However now Stephen, 52, has said he wanted to leave after growing tired of his own jokes. ‘I thought, “I just can’t go back, I’m sick of it”,’ he recalled. ‘I got to the 10th anniversary of Gogglebox.

there from day one. ‘I was churning out the same old s***. I’d say to the guys, “Sorry, you’ll have heard this 10 times before.

I don’t know why they’ve not cottoned on. When I shoved the doughnut in my mouth and swallowed..

. I must have done that four times. It made it on every time,’ he added when speaking to The Mirror .

Stephen added that after losing both of his parents this year , he’d also wanted to take on new challenges. One of them is appearing on the upcoming season of Celebs Go Dating , which will reportedly also reunite him on screen with ex-husband Daniel for the first time since announcing their split last year. Around six months after leaving Gogglebox, Stephen and his husband of six years Daniel announced they had separated, sharing that while there would ‘always be a lot of love’ between them, they’d ‘grown apart and made the decision to part ways’.

About a month later, Stephen was revealed to be part of the cast Celebs Go Dating, alongside Helen Flanagan , MAFS’ Ella Morgan , Love Island’s Chris Taylor, Made in Chelsea’s Tristan Phipps and Hollyoaks actress Jamelia . A source has told The Sun the former couple ‘have remained good friends despite their breakup’. ‘They’ve got a really open and honest relationship and were happy to share their experiences with the Celebs Go Dating team.
