I don't think I ever saw a pigeon while in a treestand. Yet, I have observed hundreds in our local communities. I imagine you have also.
It makes sense to me seeing them gathered around corn piles and grain bins. But what does not make sense is the preponderance of these iridescent beauties clustered together on our tall downtown buildings, motels, gas stations, car washes, alleyways and a tall green sign on a local steel provider's building with no nearby corn heaps. At one moment's view, they are absolutely awesome and impressive.
They are terrific flyers and can be seen ducking and diving in large flocks. Their movements are quick and a marvel to watch. The fastest flyers tend to be the lead/head pigeon.
In the next moment, it's rather disgusting to navigate their big globby droppings on our cars and sidewalks. Sigh! Bane or blessing? As a young lad growing up in populace Columbus, Ohio, it was fun riding trolleys downtown where there was a large green park with occupied benches and some tall trees. Invariably, there would be devoted bench-sitters feeding hungry and aggressive pigeons from lunches, bags of popcorn or small supplies of peanuts.
The scene was very entertaining. Most of us know and appreciate what Jesus had to say about sparrows. He reminded the gathered listeners of how much more humans are valued than birds by God .
.. thus utilizing this metaphor showing how He cares, values and "remembers" even little sparrows.
When Jesus asks a question, hang on! Huge doc.
