Typically, these iconic shacks open later in the year, when the tourism season is in full flow around December, but the change this year marks a shift in how Goa is gearing up to welcome tourists.
Goa’s beach shacks are a quintessential part of the Goan experience. These rustic yet charming structures serve fresh seafood, tropical drinks, and an ambiance that draws visitors from around the globe. Usually, the process of setting them up involves extensive paperwork, which often delays their opening until well after the tourist season begins.
However, this year, in a landmark decision, beach shacks have been allowed to open right at the start of the season. "This is the first time that shacks are waiting for tourists to come. Usually, tourists wait for shacks to come up.
Of the 350-off beach shacks, some 80 per cent have already been erected and the rest will come up by October 15," said Cruz Cardoso, president of the Shack Owners' Welfare Society, according to a PTI report. Goa’s economy heavily depends on tourism, and beach shacks play a key role in this ecosystem. By allowing shacks to open earlier, the local government aims to maximise the economic benefits of the tourist season.
