The Goa Tourism Department kicked off 2024 with bold initiatives and groundbreaking accomplishments, positioning the state as a global leader in tourism innovation. The year began with the much-anticipated “Meet the Media” event, which unveiled Goa’s trailblazing Regenerative Tourism Initiative.
As the first state in India to embrace this sustainable model, Goa set a precedent by focusing on ecosystem restoration, community empowerment, and sustainable economic growth, creating a new benchmark for tourism in India. In January, the department hosted two major cultural events celebrating Goa’s heritage. On January 19th, a grand event marked the 350th coronation anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maidan in Bicholim.
This tribute featured cultural performances by Mumbai artists, the recital of “Shiva Gomant Gatha,” and the unveiling of a statue of the iconic warrior king, showcasing his lasting impact on Indian history. Following this, the “Enlightening Sri Ram Jyoti” event on January 22nd brought spirituality to the forefront with Maha Aarti, Bhajan Sandhya, classical dances, Dindi performances, and a spectacular fireworks display.
