One of the central topics of discussion was the need to significantly enhance international flight connections to Goa.

Minister Khaunte advocated for an increase in direct flights from major global cities, stressing that improved air connectivity is vital to attracting a higher volume of international tourists. By expanding these connections, Goa could further establish itself as a top choice for global travelers, boosting the local economy and enhancing the state’s tourism profile. The meeting also brought attention to the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme, specifically concerning the Basilica of Bom Jesus, one of Goa’s most revered heritage sites.

The timely completion of the PRASHAD scheme at the Basilica would not only improve the spiritual and cultural experiences for tourists but also serve as a cornerstone for Goa’s cultural tourism strategy. In addition to connectivity and cultural heritage, Khaunte emphasized the importance of continued central government support in developing Goa’s tourism infrastructure.

He outlined plans for Goa to become the first state in India to adopt Regenerative Tourism, an innovative approach focused on sustainable and responsible tourism practices that not only benefit the economy but also preserve the environment and cultural heritage. The discussions underscored the collaborative efforts required to elevate Goa’s tourism sector to new heights. Union Minister Shekhawat expressed the central government’s commitment to supporting Goa’s tourism initiatives, ensuring that the state receives the necessary resources and backing to implement its ambitious plans.

This strategic push for enhanced connectivity, infrastructure development, and cultural preservation is expected to significantly boost Goa’s appeal as a world-class tourist destination. With strong support from both state and central governments, Goa is poised to attract a larger share of international tourists, driving growth in the tourism sector and contributing to the overall economic development of the state..
