She was born on June 2, 1923, in Palatine Bridge, NY, to the late Verlie Rose (Van Etta) and Nelson Ambridge. Gladys grew up locally and graduated from Fort Plain High School. Throughout her career, she worked for Luxuray Factory in Fort Plain, Helmont Mills Knitting Plant in St Johnsville, and eventually retired from RJR Nabisco in Canajoharie in March of 1985.

Gladys was married to the love of her life Tirso Martagon on June 3, 1946, in Newark, NJ. They shared over 50 beautiful years together before his passing on December 26, 2004. Gladys enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles, but more than anything she loved spending time and visiting with her family and friends.



She was predeceased by her husband Tirso Martagon; son Peter Ciani; parents Nelson and Verlie Ambridge; siblings Alice Zimmerman, Natalie Yager, Janette Rice, and Nelson Ambridge; and great-grandson Alex Mereness. Gladys is survived by her son Tirso "Terry" (Debbie Eckler) Martagon; daughters Maria Elena (DeWayne) Mereness and Elisa (John Hearn) Crosson; grandchildren Patrick and Bryan Mereness, Lisa (Michael) Puccio, Darryn Mereness, and Terry (Sherri) Martagon; great-grandchildren Amanda (Jim) Trumbull, Tyler Mereness, Dereck Mereness, Christopher Puccio, and Jennifer Puccio; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.

m. to 6 p.m.

on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gladys the following day, Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10 a.m.

at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 119 Reid St, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Following Mass, Gladys will be laid to rest next to her husband Tirso at Fort Plain Cemetery. After the burial, all are invited back to Our Lady of Hope Church for continued fellowship and refreshments.
