Ghana’s Health Minister, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, has affirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the healthcare sector, citing significant investments, including a new maternity block. In an exclusive interview with TV3 on August 18, during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto launch in Takoradi, Dr Okoe-Boye revealed that the government is allocating over 45 million Euros to construct a state-of-the-art maternity block. He emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to expand healthcare infrastructure beyond the Agenda 111 project, which aims to build new hospitals nationwide.

“We are investing heavily in increasing bed space and improving healthcare facilities,” Dr. Okoe-Boye said. “In addition to Agenda 111, President Akufo-Addo has initiated the construction of a maternity block worth approximately 45 million Euros.

” The Minister also addressed the government’s efforts to support healthcare workers. He highlighted Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s proposal to assist every health worker in obtaining a vehicle. This is part of a broader plan to enhance health professionals’ working conditions and morale.

Furthermore, Dr. Okoe-Boye outlined plans to develop specialized educational institutions for healthcare professionals, including colleges for doctors, pharmacists, and allied health workers. “We aim to establish and upgrade institutions such as the College for Specialization and the College of Health to provide opportunities for health workers to specialize in their fields and advance their careers,” he added.

These initiatives reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare services and supporting health workers in Ghana..
