Cleaning expert Lynsey Crombie has shared a simple method to clean bulky bedding items, such as duvets and pillows, without using a washing machine We're all aware of the need to wash our bed sheets routinely, yet duvets and pillows often slip down the list of cleaning priorities. Given these items are bulkier and harder to handle, they can become hotbeds for germs and bacteria if not attended to properly. But fear not, for Lynsey Crombie, affectionately dubbed the Queen of Clean, has shared her wisdom on tackling this household challenge with ease.

"If you are lucky enough to have a large drum washing machine then most duvets can be washed this way using the duvet setting," she says. Lynsey also points out for those without this luxury that "most dry cleaners offer a duvet-cleaning service", reports the Express . However, for those who don't have either option, Lynsey suggests an alternative that takes advantage of a pleasant day: "On a beautiful bright sunny day get your duvet out on the washing line.

" The washing line should be sturdy to support your duvet, but once hoisted up securely, freshening it up becomes a piece of cake. In a post on her Instagram account, @lynsey_queenofclean, Lynsey remarks: "Leave [the duvet] out in the fresh air and sunshine, the sun is a natural disinfectant so will help to kill germs and bacteria." For targeted stain removal, Lynsey offers another useful suggestion: simply apply hydrogen peroxide directly to any spots before rinsing them away.

Lynsey shared her expertise on pillow care, noting: "Only certain pillows can be soaked in the bath, feathered pillows and foam pillows most certainly can't be." To breathe new life into your pillows, try airing them out on the washing line or clipping them up for a few hours of sunshine. For a burst of freshness, spritz them with fabric refresher and slip them into "thick, quilted pillow protectors", which ought to be "washed at least twice a month".

She confidently states that taking these steps will "eliminate the need to wash your pillows". For those unsightly "yellow staining" on pillows, she recommends "using hydrogen peroxide.".
