A recent study has revealed that the top priority for young Brits nearing their 30s isn't climbing onto the property ladder or walking down the aisle. Instead, Gen Z's primary goal before hitting the big 3-0 is embarking on a long-haul trip of a lifetime. The research, conducted by holiday firm First Choice, indicates that traditional milestones are losing their appeal among the social media-savvy generation.
A quarter of those surveyed, aged between 25 and 29, confessed to feeling "anxious" about turning 30 (27%), while a third (31%) felt they should have had more thrilling life experiences by now. With a burning desire to step out of their comfort zones, nearly half (44%) of young Brits are determined to embark on a significant journey before their 30th birthday. This desire to travel far and wide trumps buying a house (40%) and getting hitched (36%) as a pre-30 ambition.
Over half of the respondents (58%) have only visited five countries or fewer, so it's no shocker that they view turning 30 as a deadline for new travel adventures. Top of the long-haul bucket list for Gen Z and millennials are Thailand, Barbados and Mexico hotspots known for their cultural exploration opportunities, stunning natural beauty and vibrant nightlife. However, despite these exotic locations fuelling their wanderlust, over half of the participants (53%) admitted that hefty costs are putting the brakes on their travel dreams.
In response to the research, First Choice is now on a mission to help 20.
