The BBC sitcom Gavin And Stacey delivered an emotional rollercoaster for fans with its 90-minute finale, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. Co-writer James Corden confessed: "I just wanted it to feel satisfying". The episode kicked off with a shocker as Neil "Smithy" Smith (James Corden) was set to wed not Vanessa Shanessa "Nessa" Jenkins (Ruth Jones), but his snobbish girlfriend Sonia, portrayed by Laura Aikman, who had secretly joined the set to maintain the plot twist.

In dramatic fashion, Smithy's mate Gavin (Mathew Horne) halted the wedding in the nick of time, leading to Smithy ditching Sonia at the altar to chase after Nessa before she could leave on a ship. However, even the second proposal hit a snag when Smithy asked Nessa to propose once more, echoing her move in the 2019 Christmas special, only for her to decline. In a moment that tugged at the heartstrings, Smithy earnestly said: "It's okay.
