Gatineau Police Service Photo by Gatineau Police Service / HANDOUT Article content An 18-year-old Gatineau man was to appear in court Friday afternoon in connection with what police said was a case of sexual assault of a minor.

The Gatineau Police Service said charges of kidnapping, sexual interference and sexual assault with a weapon against the man had been submitted to Quebec’s Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP). He remained in custody pending Friday’s court appearance. In a news release Friday, Gatineau police said officers had gone to an apartment building in the Lac-Beauchamp district regarding a possible child abduction.

There the officers met a young girl who told them she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a stranger. Evidence at the scene allowed police to identify the suspect, the release added, and he was arrested later in the evening.
