An expert revealed how to protect your lawn over the winter months - and what to do if it's already showing signs of winter stress. Tom Clamp, an expert from Doff – a manufacturer of premium garden care products – has shared some crucial tips for looking after your lawn during the winter months. "Winter brings several challenges for lawns, from frost damage to nutrient depletion," Tom highlighted.

Mowing routine Lawns should not be cut down too short during winter. Mr Clamp explained: "Longer blades provide more insulation and are better at withstanding frost. Also, be sure to sharpen your mower blades - ragged cuts can lead to brown edges and make your lawn more vulnerable to disease.

" The correct fertiliser "Winter-specific fertilisers contain less nitrogen, reducing the risk of soft growth that's vulnerable to winter conditions," said Mr Clamp. "These fertilisers focus on building strong roots with phosphorus and enhancing cold resistance with potassium." Mr Clamp added: "Some also include trace elements like iron, which keeps your lawn looking green even in colder weather .
