Residents living in Chanchalguda and surrounding areas have been complaining that they are subject to hardships and nightmares from the nuisance created by drug addicts in the surroundings. “There are up to 100 drug peddlers in the twin cities. These addicts rule the roads after sunset.

They have made our lives miserable. The Sultan Daira graveyard is their adda,” said Mohammed Lateef, a local resident. He added, “The local representatives have provided us with whistles.

However, when use them the criminals pelt stones at us from the pitch-dark graveyard.” A woman resident from the area complained, “These addicts make indecent gestures at women and girls passing through the road. We bear it in silence as we fear they could harm us.

” Incidentally, most of the addicts are non-locals and reportedly come from Talabkatta, Falaknuma, Wattapally, Nacharam and Dhoolpet. “Recently, I complained to the DCP (city task force), who immediately sent a team but the culprits managed to escape through the graveyard,” MBT spokesperson Mohammed Amjadullah Khan, said. There are hardly any CCTV cameras on the stretch, and some of those that are present do not function.

“This is a serious threat to the residents and students. I have seen peddlers selling ganja cigarette. I urge the police to take immediate action against these trouble-makers and also install new CCTV cameras so that illegal activities can be monitored from the command control and untoward incidents can be prevent.
