Prayagraj : The water level of Ganga and Yamuna continued to decline for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. In the past 24 hours, Ganga receded by 9cm at Phaphamau and by 40cm at Chhatnag while Yamuna at Naini receded by 10cm. With the water level stabilising on Monday noon and subsequently receding, the danger of flooding in the city seems to be averted for the time being.

At 8am, the water level of Yamuna was 83.80m in Naini, which was 10cm less than the water level recorded at 10pm on Monday. At the same time, the water level of Ganga was recorded at 83.

98m at Phaphamau and 83.00m at Chhatnag. Here also, the water level decreased in the past 24 hours.

The officials of the district administration and flood control department are keeping a close vigil on the water levels in all the dams upstream of both the Ganga and Yamuna. It is believed that there will be a danger of flooding only if there is heavy rain in the mountains or in parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. For the last few days, Ganga and Yamuna has been rising continuously.

But from Monday noon, the water level started decreasing. Following dip in the level, locals whose houses were inundated were preparing to return, but incessant rains on Tuesday caused some trouble..
