Broadcaster Jackie Bird is among the big Scottish names who have been recognised in the New Year's Honours list alongside footballing legends and the head of the MI5. The former BBC presenter has been recognised for her services to broadcasting and charity and has been awarded an MBE. Former Partick Thistle, Liverpool and Scotland defender Alan Hansen is also made an MBE for his services to football and broadcasting, having had a lengthy career on Match of the Day following his retirement from playing.

He's not the only ex-footballer to be honored, with ex-Celtic and Dunfermline defender David Moyes also made an OBE for services to football. He's had a long career as a manager too, having been in charge of clubs such as Everton, Manchester United and most recently West Ham, where he guided the London club to European success in the Europa Conference League in 2023. Speaking about her award, Ms Bird said: “I’m thrilled, absolutely surprised and thrilled.



“My first thought was, ‘I can take my mum and dad to Buckingham Palace’.” Glasgow-born Ken McCallum has made been given a knighthood in the honours list. He was named as Director General of MI5 in 2020 having previously served as deputy.

Painter and printmaker Dame Barbara studied at Edinburgh College of Art and went on to teach art in secondary schools then lecture at Aberdeen College of Education and Glasgow School of Art. Olympian Duncan Scott has been made an OBE for services to swimming. David Moyes First Mini.
