Boots will have closed down nearly 20 stores in the West Midlands by the end of summer 2024. And most of those stores, if not all, were already shut between March 2023 and March 2024. The beauty and pharmacy chain revealed plans last year to permanently close 300 outlets .
Around 250 of those have already closed. The few that remain will shut before the end of this summer. Walgreens Boots Alliance, the parent company of Boots UK, said the closures were part of its money strategy to save £618million.

Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth said: "We continue to face a difficult operating environment - including persistent pressures on the US consumer and the impact of recent marketplace dynamics which have eroded pharmacy margins. "Our results and outlook reflect these headwinds, despite solid performance in both our international and US healthcare segments.
Informed by our strategic review, we're focused on improving our core business: retail pharmacy, which is central to the future of healthcare." Walgreens highlighted in its financial statement that part of its cost-cutting measure involved shutting "up to 650 Boots stores" in the UK. Boots said any additional closures to come would fall within the already-communicated plans and do not signify more pharmacy closures.
