The man who has been at the helm managing one of Cork city's oldest and most loved pubs has said he is "so proud" to be the bar's new owner - "a full circle moment" since he took on the lease as manager 10 years ago. Colm O'Connor has bought Costigan's on Washington Street after nearly a decade as manager of the thriving bar. He and Brian McCarthy, who has grown from bartender to business partner, say they are delighted to be able to continue the famed landmark pub's success into the future.

Colm left home at just 17 and swapped the farmland of Co Meath for the bar scene in Cork, moving into a career of hospitality and never looking back. He has worked at a number of restaurants and bars in Cork over the past three decades, most recently taking over the lease of Costigan's in 2015.



He said: " This is a real full circle moment for me, "This pub has been a gathering place for friends, families, and tourists for generations, and I have been so proud to be a part of its progression over these nine years. It’s always been a dream of mine to one day own my own pub and it’s quite surreal to finally be able to say that I do.” He thanked his friends and family for their "endless support" and said he "definitely owes a few people a couple of pints on the house.
