Sunday, February 2, 2025 Tanzania has emerged as one of Africa’s fastest-growing tourist destinations, achieving a record-breaking milestone in 2024. According to the country’s Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Pindi Chana, Tanzania welcomed 5.36 million tourists last year, surpassing its initial goal of attracting 5 million visitors by 2025.

This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the government’s strategic efforts to revitalize the sector in the post-pandemic era. The country’s remarkable tourism performance was driven by a combination of international and domestic visitors. Of the total number, 3.



22 million were domestic tourists, while 2.14 million were international travelers. Despite these impressive numbers, the revenue generated from tourism stood at 4 billion U.

S. dollars, still short of the ambitious 6 billion U.S.

dollar target set for December 2025. Government-led initiatives have played a pivotal role in positioning Tanzania as a premier travel destination. Following the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s tourism authorities intensified their efforts to showcase its diverse landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rich cultural heritage.

Tanzania’s promotional strategies included collaborations with travel influencers, increased international media coverage, and government-backed tourism campaigns. One notable example was President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s initiative to host world-renowned travel journalist Peter G.
