For acclaimed composer Sushin Shyam, the past year wasn’t just a symphony of professional triumphs with hits like Manjummel Boys , Aavesham , and Ullozhukku . His wedding to his partner of nine years, Uthara Krishnan, marked a new chapter of the heart. Their story began serendipitously in 2013, at a mutual friend’s home in Chennai , where a shared love for biryani sparked the first connection.
What started as casual conversations blossomed into a friendship over fleeting encounters on film sets, where their worlds continued to intertwine. While Krishnan admits to harbouring romantic feelings early on, it wasn’t until Shyam saw her in an Onam sari two years later that his heart truly skipped a beat. “We got engaged six years ago,” he reflects, “but we were content in our little world, living together and working.
Eventually, we felt it was time to celebrate our relationship.” Over the years, she awakened in him a passion for travel, the inspirations of which can be heard in the soulful tracks of Kumbalangi Nights . Krishnan, with her own roots in cinema, once navigated the world behind the lens, serving as assistant director on films like Trance and C U Soon .
She currently works on the commercial aspects of Shyam’s musical ventures. The celebrations of the two-day affair began with a sundowner mylanchi, or mehendi, at Krishnan’s family home in Kochi. The couple chose to work with Stories by Maatam, an event planning company known for their sustainable approa.
