Soup and Hogan’s 16th Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest is both a hilarious show with some brilliant musical numbers, but also an epic contest of human effort over the processed food known as the hot dog. Three competitors, each with impressively fleshed-out backstories, have booked their ticket with Soup and Hogan, looking to take home the grand prize of .

.. $50.

Maybe it’s not a lot of money to you or me, but it could seriously change some lives. Ford Bronco (named after OJ Simpson’s famous getaway car) wants to put down a deposit on his eponymous transportation, Ulysses Cambridge needs the money to get his dog back from the pound, and Dave is in it to win back his ex-wife. His ex-wife, unfortunately, seems more interested in the other competitors.

But you didn’t come for the intricate backstories, but instead for the slapstick comedy and over-the-top musical numbers sung to perfection. The best comparison might be the epicness of the musical Les Miserables, but strip out all the garbage about the nature of redemption and instead set it at a hot dog eating contest. I suppose in this analogy, that would mean Ford Bronco would play the part of Jean Valjean.

Ethan Lang and Sam Daly have crafted a zany musical that will tickle the fancy of any late-night Fringing crowd. Songs like “Bring on the Meat” will have you clapping along while the absurdist comedy will have you rolling in the aisles and howling with laughter. Find your Fringe!
