The biggest weekend in the Irish music calendar is almost here with Electric Picnic 2024 set to get underway this weekend. The hugely popular music festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, with the 2024 event taking place slightly earlier than usual. Electric Picnic is traditionally held in the first weekend in September, with festival director Melvin Benn confirming that the change in date this year has been made in an effort to accommodate the touring schedules of artists.

There's also a number of homegrown acts for ticketholders to check out, including Kodaline, Jazzy, Kneecap, Damien Dempsey and the Wolfe Tones, who return to Electric Picnic to perform on the Main Stage following the record crowds at Electric Arena last year. 75,000 people are set to descend on Stradbally Hall in Co Laois this weekend and if you were look enough to snag a ticket, here's all the info you need for Day 1 of the festival.



Friday line-up The first day of Electric Picnic 2024 will kick-off with plenty of must-see acts set to take to the stage at Stradbally Hall. Noah Kahan, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Jazzy are among the artists playing the Main Stage on Friday, while attendees will also be able to check out legendary US rapper Nas and dance duo Faithless over on the Electric Arena stage. Other acts performing on Friday who are well worth seeking out include acclaimed Irish rapper Kojaque, Galway alt-rockers NewDad and Dublin indie folk outfit Villagers.

30pm: NewDad 7.15pm - 8pm: Odhran Muphy 6pm - 6.45pm: Dug Friday weather at Electric Picnic There's good news for Electric Picnic attendees as the 75,000 people heading to the festival are in for a “really, really good weekend” on the weather front .

That’s according to weather guru Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather, who has predicted plenty of dry and sunny spells for the weekend once the wet weather experienced across the country on Thursday morning clears up. The weekend in Laois will get off to a great start, according to O’Reilly, with “a lovely fresh Friday morning with good sunshine” in store with good sunny spells and temperatures reaching up to 19C. Getting there There are many ways to make your way to Electric Picnic, however, festival goers are strongly urged all festival to use public transport or car share.

By Train: Portlaoise is the closest train stations to the festival. There will be a shuttle bus service running from the Portlaoise Train Station to Electric Picnic. By Bus: From Dublin - Dublin City Marathon Coaches are operating hourly services from North Wall Quay, Bus stop number:7623, from Thursday to Sunday. Check out the Marathon Coaches website for more info. Departure Times from Dublin: Thursday: 14:00 – 19:00, on the hour, each hour.

Friday: 07:00 – 13:00, every half hour; 13:00 – 18:00, on the hour, each hour. Saturday: 09:00 – 13:00, on the hour, each hour. Sunday: 10:00 – 12:00 noon, on the hour, each hour.

Return Times from Electric Picnic: Saturday Night: 23:00, 00:00, and 01:00. Sunday: 14:00 – 00:00, every hour. Sunday Night / Monday Morning: 01:00 – 14:00, every hour.

Wexford - Wexford City TravelMaster are operating services from Wexford City stopping in Oylegate, Gorey, Wicklow and Newtownmountkennedy on August 15 and 16. Return services are available from Electric Picnic on Sunday, August 19. From Kerry - Killarney TravelMaster are operating a service from Mission Road, Killarney on the August 15 and 16.

From Galway - Galway City TravelMaster are operating a service from Galway City Bus Station to Electric Picnic on August 15 and 16. A return services are available from Electric Picnic on August 19. By Car: Those travelling to Stradbally Hall by car are advised to plan out their route before starting your journey to Electric Picnic.

Attendees are urged not to rely on Sat-Nav or Google Maps as there are road closures and diversions in place around the event site that will affect your route to the event. From Dublin/North – M7 motorway southbound From Limerick – M7 motorway northbound From Cork – M8 motorway northbound N80 from the West N80 from South East/Carlow /Athy What to bring and banned items As Electric Picnic is an over 18s event (with the exception of children 12 and below), be sure to bring ID to confirm your age if you think it'll be checked. Acceptable forms of proof are: a passport, Garda Age Card or a driving licence.

A strict Challenge 25 Policy will also be in place for all alcohol and tobacco sales on site. The essential items you need to bring with you are: Organisers advise packing as light as you can, as you will have to cart everything back home with you once the event is over. Banned items include: Aerosols over 250ml, glass items over 100ml (small beauty items permitted), gas canisters and gas BBQs, sound systems, professional camera equipment, unofficial high vis jackets and herbal highs including nitrous oxide.

Disposable vapes are also prohibited for the first time in 2023 due to their negative effects on the environment. Alcohol policy and other information Alcohol for personal consumption is limited to 48 cans per person maximum for the weekend. Alcohol cannot be taken into the arena before 1am.

Four cans of beer / cider per person or soft drinks bottles (up to 500ml) are permitted to be brought in the Arena only after 1am when bars close Bags larger than A4 size are allowed into the campsite, but not into the arena. Disposable barbeques must be used in designated BBQ areas only. Umbrellas are not allowed outside of the campsite.
