After winning their 74th straight high school football game, the FD Friars may be finding it tough to stay motivated with win after easy win. FD steamrolled and outclassed the Sanchez Sharks, 34-0, Saturday night at the JFK Ramsey Field, continuing their domination of the sport never before seen on the island. To say competitive games are few and far for the Friars is evident by the blowouts.
Creating an internal motivation to consistently play at a high level is the norm to maintain such performances. Junior quarterback Kaynin McIntosh carries on a rich history of FD signal callers, following in the shadows of the departed Alex Sojo. McIntosh put up huge numbers in only the first half of work before sitting down, going 10-of-16 for 262 yards and four touchdowns before giving way to Kaizayuh Flores in the second half.
Defensively, senior lineman Isaiha Arriola was a monster with 10.5 tackles, five of them were for a loss. The Friars defense pushed the Sharks to -11 yards of total offense.
Sanchez ran its traditional wishbone offense and couldn’t get anything going as all eight offensive possessions were regulated to 3-and-out. JoeVince Meno contributed with a big sack. FD coach Bruce Meno focused on the passing game in the first half, taking advantage of his new aerial weapon in Red McIntosh.
With a beautiful spiral and precision accuracy, McIntosh put his talents on display. After hitting Daethan Alcantara for an 8-yard score to open up the scoring in the first quarter, McIntosh went on a spree of three touchdowns in three consecutive passes to open the second quarter. On the first play of the first three drives in the second quarter, McIntosh hit Aiden Sudo, 13 yards, Ian Castro, 75 yards, and Jaron Meno, 26 yards, all for TDs to put the game out of reach at 27-0.
In fact, McIntosh could’ve easily had over 300 yards and six TDs, but he had three perfect passes dropped by his receivers. Trey Blas was the top receiver for FD with four catches for 103 yards. The second half gave way to frequent substitutions, especially for the Friars.
Brock Aguon capped off the scoring with a valiant 45-yard run to open the second half. From there on, it was only a matter of melting the clock. David Leon Guerrero made four of 5 PATs and missed a 39-yard field goal attempt against the wind.
For Sanchez, Jude Kelly and Jeremy Salinas both had ricocheted interceptions. Kelly provided a 43-yard kickoff return that turned out to be the lone highlight of the Sharks’ night. In the earlier game in the afternoon, the Southern Dolphins trounced the Okkodo Bulldogs, 35-0.
