Pune: The Chikhali police have filed a case against four men from Shelar Vasti on charges of ransacking an eatery in their locality and beating up its owner (42) as well as its workers late in the night on Tuesday following a quarrel over refusal to serve food after the closing hours. The eatery owner lodged a complaint against the suspects with the Chikhali police on Wednesday evening. The four men have been charged under sections 115, 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

An officer from the Chikhali police said the four men went to the eatery around 11.45pm on Tuesday and told a waiter to take their order. "When the waiter told them that the eatery was closed and the food had also been exhausted, they started abusing and beating him up and other workers," the officer said.

He said one of the suspects threw chairs in the eatery, while another bit the waiter on his left hand. The owner rushed to the eatery after one of the waiters alerted him. "The suspects abused him and damaged his cellphone by throwing it on the ground.

The four men also threatened the owner that they would not allow him to run the eatery in the area," he said..
