Pune: Former India cricketer Salil Ankola 's mother, Mala Ashok Ankola (77), was found dead around noon on Friday in her daughter's flat in Prabhat Road area, a prime residential neighbourhood close to Film and Television Institute of India. She was the widow of late IPS officer Ashok Ankola. Salil, is not in Pune, the police said.

However, he posted his mother's photograph on his social media page with a note that said "Goodbye Mom". A Deccan Gymkhana police officer said Mala Ankola 's throat was found slit and a kitchen knife and a screwdriver were found lying nearby. "She was alone in the flat, and there are no signs of a forced entry or robbery at this point.

We did not find any suicide note inside the flat. We will reach a definite conclusion over the cause of death once we get the postmortem report and investigate the matter."
