Jackelyn Johnson | The Lima News BLUFFTON – Most football coaches would probably agree that games are won in the trenches. In the case of Friday’s Division VI Regional Quarterfinal in Region 22 against Huron, Bluffton not only won the battle in the trenches but did so in dominating fashion.
Bluffton’s offensive unit rolled up 422 yards, while its defense held Huron’s offense to just 45 yards, en route to a convincing 35-0 victory at Harmon Field. With the win, Bluffton (11-1) advanced to next Friday’s Division VI Regional Semifinal in Region 22 where it will face Ottawa Hills at a site to be determined with kick-off set for 7 p.m.
Huron ended its season with a 7-5 record. On Friday, Bluffton sophomore running back Parker Lovell rushed for 177 yards on 30 carries and had four touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Tayte Giesige rushed for 140 yards on 19 carries for the Pirates.
Giesige also completed 9 of 12 pass attempts for 58 yards. “We wanted our offensive line to put it on them tonight,” Bluffton coach Jeff Richards said. “We saw some things on film, and we thought we could get back to what we were always good at – and that was to be able to run the ball.
“So, they did a great job. Parker (Lovell) did a great job. Tayte (Giesige) did a great job.
