SHORT GAP, W.Va. – This Veterans Day, Frankfort Middle School students created a field of American flags in partnership with DAV (Disabled American Veterans) to honor local veterans and raise critical funds to support our nation’s ill and injured heroes.
Eighth grade students Logan Mortimore, Macklen Hoppert, Ashton Grady, Kamryn Saville, Maci Smith, Jacob Busch, Trey Sagal, Richard Jones, Ian Riley, Jackson Lawrence, Ike Jackson, James Mackert, Dylan Felty, Chandler Shields, and Sam Hammons worked to create the field of flags around the school’s flag pole. Students participated in school fundraising events, and generous community members also contributed to the campaign to donate flags to honor our veterans. Each donated flag represents a special veteran in someone’s life, with proceeds benefitting DAV and the charity’s free, professional services for veterans, their families and survivors.
For each $250 raised, Frankfort Middle School received 24 American flags to add to their field. In total, Frankfort Middle School raised $824 to support the DAV and honor our veterans. The 72 American flags comprising the school’s field was displayed at Frankfort Middle School on Nov.
11 for Veterans Day. For more than 100 years, DAV has helped veterans of all generations lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. Over 1 million veterans each year receive benefit assistance, meaningful employment opportunities and free transportation to VA medical appointments.
