As 2024 comes to an end, my editor said I should I write another story about the people I met this year. I had done such a thing in 2023 when Cass County was still new to me and there was a lot to be discovered. “But I didn’t really meet anyone new this year,” I told my editor and quickly dismissed the idea.

Then I started to think. I’m at a point now where a lot of my time at The Pharos-Tribune is blurring together. Did that happen this year or last? Did I know this person already? When I began scanning the archive and really concentrating on the stories I wrote, I did meet quite a few amazing people in 2024.

The difference between last year and this year is I knew a lot of people by name, I just hadn’t spoken with them yet. If there is one overarching theme in this year’s list its kindness and compassion. Let’s be honest, this city I love so much got a little ugly in 2024.

But despite that, the following people never lost their hearts. Encountering them was always an uplifting experience that brought a smile to my face and helped me remember that as a community Cass County was going to be ok. It’s the kindness and willingness to help others that I first noticed when I arrived here in February 2022 and that trait sold me on the city.

The following people I met this year best represent those values. The Klabunde family (Simeon, Julia, Joshua, Emily, Aaron and Lydia) run a small hobby farm and sell their goods at the Logansport Farmers Market as Klabunde’s Me.
