For my second Boeing 747 flight, I took to the skies with Lufthansa for an evening service from Washington, D.C., to Frankfurt, and I was not disappointed.

Boarding and departure. I arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) just over an hour before my flight and made my way directly to the gate as I only had hand luggage. The Lufthansa Group gates are located in the B Concourse near the Lufthansa Senator lounge.



If you want to see more of our trip reports, click here! For the flight to Frankfurt Airport (FRA), the airline used two boarding gates to load the aircraft quickly. I was called forward to the desk to verify my passport as I used mobile check-in to skip the bag check line, where a gate attendant confirmed we would be boarding at 17:20, ten minutes behind schedule. Boarding was smooth and organized as I made my way to my seat in row 40 at the back of the aircraft.

I was delighted to find I was sitting next to the window, with nobody in the middle seat. The cabin was spacious, with a high ceiling and enough room to pass a trolley in the aisle. The famous quadjet design flies to a wide variety of the German flag carrier's long-haul destinations.

The chairs were covered in a thick upholstery, with Lufthansa designs on the headrests. A tastefully colorful small pillow and blue blanket were on the seat. I found the leg room to be ample and enjoyed the nifty cupholder that folded down from the front of the seatback table.
