Thiruvananthapuram : In yet another accident at Muthalapozhi fishing harbour, a fisherman went missing and three others were injured after their boat capsized in a strong wave on Saturday morning. Benedict, 49, of Ennakadangu near Anchuthengu, went missing, while Sahayam, 48, Louis, 55, and Anthony, 50, were rescued by other fishermen. The rescued fishermen who sustained injuries in the accident were admitted to medical college hospital.

The search for Benedict continued till late in the night by the Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Enforcement, and coastal police. A naval helicopter was also brought in for the search operations. According to the other fishermen, the accident took place at 6:30am.

A strong wave overturned the boat, but all of them remained inside by holding on to it tightly. Seeing this, fishermen in nearby boats asked them to jump into the sea and swim. “We threw ropes at them, and we were able to save only three.

However, after two more waves, Benedict went missing in the sea. He must have been trapped between rocks underneath; a team of fishermen is also searching for him,” said Joboy, another fisherman. Anchuthengu coastal police registered a man missing case over the incident under section 57 of the Kerala Police Act-2011.
