Netflix has announced that production has officially begun on the highly-anticipated film continuation of the British period crime drama series “Peaky Blinders”. The streamer has premiered the first two photos from the project, including a first look at Cillian Murphy‘s return as Thomas Shelby and another shot of Murphy and series creator Steven Knight reunited on set. Production begins over two years after the original series concluded its six-season run.

Tom Harper is directing from a script penned by Knight. Plot specifics are under wraps, but the film will be a continuation of the series, picking up after the events of last season and shifting the action forward in time to being in the midst of World War II. New to the franchise for the film will be actors Rebecca Ferguson (“Dune”), Barry Keoghan (“Saltburn”), and Tim Roth (“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”).

Cast members from the original series could also return but it’s not clear which ones yet. Knight, Murphy, Patrick Holland, and Guy Heeley produce. By order of the Peaky Blinders.
