Emergency services were called out to reports of a “gas leak” right in the heart of Bolton town centre. Firefighters, police and paramedics were all called to the scene on Corporation Street at around 10.30am on the morning of Sunday August 18.

An area was taped off and Cadent Gas engineers were also called to deal with the incident, which was dealt with after just over an hour. A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Shortly before 10:30am this morning, Sunday August 18, three fire engines from Bolton North and Farnworth fire stations were called to reports of a gas leak on Corporation Street, Bolton. The incident was reported on Corporation Street (Image: Newsquest) “Crews arrived quickly and used a gas detector to assess the scene.



“They worked closely with Cadent Gas and North West Ambulance Service to make the area safe before departing after approximately one hour and ten minutes.” ALSO READ: Emergency services called after crash on major road ALSO READ: Huge fire engulfed caravans in storage yard which 'sounded like bombs' Corporation Street is often busy at the weekends, being found right in front of the Market Place shopping centre in the middle of the town centre. No serious injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

In the event of an emergency, members of the public have been encouraged to always call 999 as soon as it is safe to do so..
