Firefighters sent to the scene of a fatal crash were heartbroken to find the victim was one of their colleagues. Glenn Campbell, 21, was killed when his motorbike collided with a tanker in East Lothian last Wednesday morning. His co-workers at the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were among the emergency workers who responded to the crash on the B1345 between the villages of Dirleton and Drem.

Area Commander Marc Pincombe paid tribute to Mr Campbell, saying he was a ‘well respected and loved’ firefighter. He said: ‘We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of our friend and colleague Glenn Campbell, who passed away on Wednesday, July 17. ‘Glenn was a well-respected and loved firefighter at North Berwick Community Fire Station.

‘Our thoughts are with Glenn’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.’ Mr Campbell’s girlfriend, Paige Whyte, described him as her ‘soulmate’. She said: ‘Not many people say soulmates exist.

I was one of them until Glenn Campbell came into my life. He was my beautiful, amazing boy. I feel so lost without him.
