The Figge Art Museum looked across the country for its new leader and wound up finding one inside its own doors. Melissa Mohr, who has worked in the Figge's education department for 15 years, has been named CEO and executive director at the museum, effective as of Monday, Oct. 14.

Mohr most recently served as the Figge's interim executive director, filling in for Michelle Hargrave, who left the museum in April for a position in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Melissa Mohr has been named executive director of the Figge Art Museum. “Our national search yielded an impressive pool of candidates with diverse talents and skill sets.

Melissa’s passion for our museum and her deep-rooted understanding of our history and the broader community gave her the leading edge," said Aleeza Singh, president of the Figge's board of directors, in a statement shared with media on Thursday. "She embodies the spirit and dedication that the Figge Art Museum stands for, and her leadership will provide stability, continuity, and a bright future for the museum as we enter our centennial year.” Mohr will oversee the museum's strategic initiatives, operations and engagement in and out of the Quad-Cities community, the release said.

The museum is inviting the community to a Director's Open House event at 5 p.m. on Thursday, so locals can get to know Mohr's vision for the Figge's future.

The reception will be held in the Figge's Cafe. In this file photo Melissa Mohr, then director of education at Figge Art Museu.
