Diwali, the festival of lights, is a time of joy, family gatherings, and colourful celebrations. However, the loud noise of firecrackers can be overwhelming for many, especially for those sensitive to noise, people with respiratory conditions, or those who simply prefer a quieter environment. If you find yourself feeling anxious or stressed during Diwali due to firecrackers, you’re not alone.
Here we have mentioned five tips to help you stay calm and enjoy the festivities. 1. Create a Calm, Quiet Space at Home A peaceful, soundproofed room can provide relief from the sounds of fireworks.
Set up a comfortable area with things that make you feel relaxed, such as soft pillows, blankets, or your favourite books. Try using noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs to create a buffer from the outside sounds. If you have access to a white noise machine or can play calming music, that can also be helpful to drown out external noises.
Having a safe, quiet space helps to prevent overstimulation and allows you to enjoy the festival at your own pace. 2. Practice Deep Breathing and Mindfulness Techniques Fireworks can cause sudden stress spikes, but practising deep breathing and mindfulness exercises can help keep you grounded.
Techniques such as slow, deep breathing through the nose and exhaling slowly can reduce anxiety almost immediately. Inhale for a count of four, hold for four and exhale for four. This method, often called “box breathing,” is highly effective in calming the nerv.
