Fans are up in arms over the announcement that a cherished childhood series is getting a modern makeover with a new movie. It's been revealed that the Nickelodeon classic Rugrats will be reimagined, blending live-action with CGI in a new film. Deadline reports that Jason Moore, known for directing the hit Pitch Perfect, will take the reins of this project.

The film is set to utilise computer-generated imagery for the iconic infants. The reboot concept has been met with immediate backlash from fans who are questioning the necessity of hybrid effects rather than sticking to traditional animation. A disgruntled fan expressed their dismay on X, previously known as Twitter : "Not one human asked for this.

" Another vented: "Reboots, new seasons, unnecessary live action remakes WHEN WILL IT END? ". Many pointed to past failures in CGI adaptations, with comments like: "Aside from SpongeBob, Rugrats was one of my personal favourite Nicktoons in my childhood days.", reports the Daily Star .

"And reading the words: 'live action' sounds terrifying. I don't want to see CGI babies like in The Son of The Mask." Echoing the sentiment, another said: "CGI/live-action works well for live action Sonic - not going to work well with Rugrats.

" Launched in 1991, the original 'Rugrats' series holds a special place in the hearts of those who grew up following the escapades of Tommy, Chuckie, twins Phil and Lil, and their parents. The original series continued until 2004 and was followed by a spin-off .
