SCBL fall basketball founder and director Ed Jennings is proud of the list of alumni from his league that have gone on to great success beyond their high school careers. That list includes Ryan Young (Duke), Adam Clark (Wake Forest/Pepperdine), Zay Jennings (Caldwell/ Le Moyne), Justin Paz (ESU), Keeshawn Kellman (Princeton/Florida Gulf Coast), Jevin Muniz (Delaware State/Florida Gulf Coast), Kyle Stout (Lafayette), and Sam Iorio (American, South Alabama and Niagara), Nick Coval (Davidson) and many others. But like all who saw him perform for Doug Snyder at Allen High School, Jennings is especially proud of Tyrese Martin.
The former UConn standout was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, the 51st pick overall, and immediately traded to Atlanta. Martin played in 16 games for the Hawks in the 2022-23 season and then was released by the Hawks in July of 2023. Martin signed with Minnesota in the summer of 2023 and was released by the team a month later.
Now he has a new opportunity with the rebuilding Brooklyn Nets where earlier this week he signed a two-way contract. A two-way contract in the NBA allows a player to split their time between an NBA team and their G League affiliate. It is intended for players with fewer than four years of NBA experience, and allows teams to keep players on retainer without committing to a full-time contract.
