This certification highlights the hotel’s alignment with global ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals, a core focus as the recent 19th G20 Summit spotlights sustainability in fostering a more inclusive, responsible future. Since opening in 2019, Fairmont Rio has prioritized minimizing its environmental footprint, implementing practices to enhance resource efficiency and promote eco-friendly hospitality.

The Green Key certification, awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), sets a global benchmark in sustainability standards across the tourism industry. This achievement places Fairmont Rio in a distinguished group of ten Brazilian hotels recognized for their dedication to responsible tourism and sustainable practices. To attain this certification, Fairmont Rio underwent a rigorous audit process assessing several areas: resource consumption, commitment to the circular economy, support for the local community, and respect for human rights.
