Pune: Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said Congress was against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 because it was interested in grabbing Waqf land . Fadnavis was speaking to mediapersons in Pune about the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, introduced in Parliament by Union minister of minority affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday. The opposition alleged that the bill was aimed at targeting the Muslim community.

In defence, Rijiju said that the bill was to implement reforms suggested by committees set up by the previous govt. The bill has been referred to the Joint Parliament Committee after strong objections from the opposition. The deputy chief minister said, “It was an important bill to bring transparency in the working of Waqf boards.



Congress does not want transparency as it is interested in grabbing their (Waqf board) land.
