High-flying Kidderminster Harriers hit top spot in National League North with an emphatic derby day win over Hereford on Boxing Day. Roared on by over 700 travelling fans, Harriers controlled the tie from the first minute to last to secure a convincing 3-0 victory. It was the team’s fifth win in a row in all competitions that continued a staggering run in which Phil Brown’s outfit have been toppled just once in league action since September.
As a result, they sit top of the pile heading into the New Year, phenomenal efforts from Zak Brown and Amari Morgan-Smith married to a well-taken Tope Obadeyi goal netting the Christmas bragging rights in Herefordshire. The visitors were on the front foot from the off, Ashley Hemmings firing into the side netting in just the fourth minute, before Ryley Reynolds sliced wide with just seven on the clock. A minute later it was 1-0, Zak Brown firing his team in front in the most outrageous of fashions, finding the top corner from distance for the second game in succession.
Brown was then at the other end to deny Dylan Mitchell a certain effort at goal, before the best Hereford chance of the day saw Tate Campbell fire a rising effort off the bar in first half stoppage time. That proved to be pivotal as, on 50 minutes, the influential Brown was again involved, lifting the ball forward for the alert Obadeyi to chase down a wondering Tom Donaghy who’d gone five yards outside of his area, unable to dash back quicky enough to stop the finish .
