A free seminar on macular degeneration (MD), the leading cause of blindness in New Zealand, will be held at the Orewa Baptist Church, 2 Loop Road, this Saturday, August 24. Ophthalmologist Dr Joanne Sims will present information about macular degeneration and its treatments, how to reduce the risks and best manage the disease. There will also be displays of low vision aids and information packs available.
One in seven people over 50 years of age has some evidence of MD, impacting on the ability to drive, read, watch television, undertake many hobbies and recognise faces. The incidence increases with age. The seminar will run from 10am to 11.
