Hard work paid off for the “extraordinary” students at a Bolton school today. GCSE pupils at University Collegiate School received their GCSE results and the school said outcomes “markedly” improved since last year. Star students like Amir Abdulkareem had reason to be proud.
Amir Abdulkareem (Image: Newsquest) Amir achieved eight GCSEs, including 6 in English and Maths and a 7 in science. He said: "I did pretty well to be honest. "It was not too difficult because I was quite focused in class, but it wasn't the easiest.
"I'm planning on going to A-levels and doing biology, chemistry and psychology." Amir wants to go into a career in medicine. Zuhaib Khan (Image: Newsquest) Zuhaib Khan was also successful.
He got 6s in science and an 8 in English. He said: "The exams went way better than I expected. “I started a bit shaky because it was going to be a big year for me.
"I kept my head down the whole year, focused as hard as I could. “Clearly the results have shown today, and I'm really pleased with that." Zuhaib is going on to do a T-level in vehicle maintenance and repair.
Faiza Arif (Image: Newsquest) Faiza Arif achieved 9 GCSEs, including a 9 in Spanish. She said: “I think I did really well in Spanish. I didn't speak it for 2 years, so the fact that I got a grade 9 is great.
” Zakariya and Adam Hussain (Image: University Collegiate School) Twins Zakariya and Adam Hussain were happy with their eight GCSE results each. James Inman, UCS Headteacher, said: “We are extremely proud today of the success and all of the hard work of our students. “They have shown significant commitment to learning and positivity in their attitudes to work.
“This is reflected in their strong GCSE results. Marc Doyle, CEO of Quest Trust who operate the school said: "There are marked improvements in student outcomes between this year and last. “The changes in leadership and developments made in the quality of education is evident through the GCSE results our students achieved this year.
" Mark said the success is thanks to the “whole school community and key members of the Trust.” Students hard work also contributed to the school’s success. James said: “They are an extraordinary group of learners.
It’s easy to forget the impact that covid had on their initial high school education. “They were determined not to be defined by the pandemic.’ Last month, University Collegiate School also achieved IQM centre of excellence status.
It will open a new multi-games area next month and has broken ground on a state-of-the-art school extension set to open in autumn 2025..
