Summary American Airlines will reduce Chicago O'Hare-Heathrow flights from four daily to triple daily next summer. It will be its lowest summer frequency since 2015 outside of COVID years. American and British Airways will have six daily O'Hare services, down from seven now.

London Heathrow is American Airlines most-served European airport. The enormous Heathrow-US demand and one world and transatlantic joint venture partner British Airways explain it. In American's schedule update over the weekend, it removed one of its daily Chicago O'Hare-Heathrow flights planned for next summer.

When writing on September 9, it is currently unclear what will replace it. Which passenger aircraft do you think made the cut in September? American: currently four daily flights Using Cirium data to analyze the carrier's O'Hare -Heathrow schedule development indicates that it has had four daily flights for many summers . In fact, it even had five daily departures as recently as October 2008.

Larger gauge aircraft, with more seats/departure, partly offset the lower frequency. Due to lower demand, flights are reduced to double daily in winter , helping with winter pricing, yields, and loads. What is the current schedule? In September 2024 , American has four daily O'Hare-Heathrow services, just like it has had for 12 of the past 20 September months.

Its schedule is shown below. Not shown is BA, which has a triple-daily O'Hare service this summer for the first time since 2008, making seven daily flights between the partners. O'Hare-Heathrow in September (local times) Heathrow-O'Hare in September (local times) 08:25-22:10 (787-9) 08:40-11:17 (787-9) 17:50-07:30+1 (787-9) 10:05-12:35 (787-9) 20:35-10:20+1 (787-9) 12:15-14:50 (787-9) 22:35-12:15+1 (787-9) 14:25-17:05 (787-9) As you can see, American has exclusively scheduled the 787-9 on the route.

Each departure is on the 285-seat version, which is the higher-capacity but lower-premium configuration. Aircraft substitutions do occur. For example, AA98 deployed the 234-seat 787-8 from the US on September 8 .

Reduces to three daily next summer While plans might change, the latest information shows that American will reduce O'Hare-Heathrow flights to triple daily next summer. Aside from the pandemic-driven years, this will be the lowest summer frequency since 2015 . Part of the reason seems to be that BA still plans to offer triple-daily flights.

The partners inevitably coordinate schedules. It'd be odd if they did not. As previously reported, American will not operate Phoenix-Heathrow this coming winter, but JV partner BA's daily operation will continue.

American will be back in March 2025. It will also end one of its three daily Los Angeles services, with BA running triple daily year-round. What is American's new O'Hare schedule? As you can see, American will no longer operate the 08:40 or 10:05 departures from the UK, with a 09:35 departure offered instead.

More notably, its Europe-bound daytime flight — the longest from North America to Northern Europe — has been removed . It will continue to fly JFK-Heathrow during the day.
