Thursday, October 3, 2024 Rutopía, Mexico’s first B Corp tourism company, is proud to announce the launch of the Community Kitchen in Acaxochitlán, Hidalgo. This innovative project is improving the lives of local residents while celebrating regional cuisine, promoting sustainable development, and building a stronger community. For over four years, Rutopía has collaborated with Fulgencio and Felicia, two local custodians of Acaxochitlán’s traditions.
Travelers are welcomed into their home for unique cultural experiences—like mushroom foraging, traditional healing, and tortilla-making workshops—that immerse visitors in the heart of Mexican culture. Their workspace was once a small hut, but with the new Community Kitchen, a fresh chapter begins. Fulgencio says, “This kitchen is a new start, allowing our community to thrive and share our traditions more widely.
” The project has also positively impacted their family life. The Community Kitchen is the result of collective effort. Thanks to generous donors and the hard work of Rutopía’s volunteers, the dream became a reality.
Fulgencio, founder of the social enterprise Triple F, notes, “This project is a stepping stone for our community, showing what passion and teamwork can achieve.” The new kitchen is more than a dining space. Inside, the warmth of the comal and the inviting wood interior create a welcoming environment, while the forest outside offers a peaceful retreat.
