Sunday, September 15, 2024 Greater Anglia has launched new “Ranger” tickets, offering passengers unlimited off-peak travel on two major railway routes in Essex. The introduction of these tickets is aimed at encouraging more people to use the train services, particularly on the Manningtree to Harwich “Mayflower Line” and the Colchester to Clacton-on-Sea/Walton-on-the-Naze “Sunshine Coast” Line . The new tickets, available from September 15, 2024, allow passengers to hop on and off trains all day.

They are designed to boost both local tourism and regular travel in the region. Prices for the Mayflower Line Ranger start at £11 for adults, £5.50 for children, and £22 for a family.

The Sunshine Coast Line Ranger is priced slightly higher at £12.50 for adults, £6.25 for children, and £25 for a family, with railcards offering additional discounts.

Jayne Summer, Rail Engagement Manager for the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership , expressed excitement over the new tickets, stating they provide excellent value and encourage the use of trains to explore the various tourist attractions accessible via these routes. Similarly, Alan Neville , Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager, emphasized that the new tickets offer a flexible, affordable travel option for locals, tourists, and day-trippers. He also hinted at the possibility of expanding these tickets to other branch lines in Essex if they prove successful.
