The death of a 26-year-old Ernst & Young (EY) employee who died of a heart attack, allegedly due to excessive workload brought back the spotlight to the toxic work culture and work-related stress among Indian workers. Death from diseases due to long working hours is the highest in India. Suicide amongst Indian workers due to work issues has doubled in the last two decades.

According to data, the most junior in any organisation in India worked the most and young Indian women worked 55 hours weekly, which is the highest globally. A major accident was narrowly avoided at a construction site in Noida’s Sector 62 after two workers were left hanging mid-air when their rope securing their trolley snapped while they were cleaning windows of a building.
