Sodiq Ojuroungbe Healthcare professionals have called for increased focus on clinical governance to address the challenges facing Nigeria’s healthcare sector. Speaking during the inauguration of the AGCare Specialist Clinic in Asaba, the experts lamented that the lack of clinical governance has significantly impeded the development and effectiveness of healthcare services in the country. The founder of the AGCare Specialist Clinic, Dr Chukwuka Monye emphasised the importance of clinical governance, stating that its integration into hospital operations is crucial for overcoming healthcare delivery challenges.

“Our vision is to ensure that quality healthcare should not be the exclusive preserve of only a few. “Why should quality care be only for a few people? This is one of the reasons we embarked on rolling out more centers across the country. We are thinking about healthcare in an integrated manner,” he stated.

A Principal Lead of AGCare, DR Ebomwonyi Osagie, explained that the system is a framework designed to ensure quality care for every patient, stressing that it involves maximum attention from the registration desk through the entire experience of the patient in the hospital. Osagie stressed that clinical governance helps minimise medication errors, incorrect diagnoses, and litigation risks, striving to enhance patient safety and care quality. “Everything is reviewed such that the chances of having medication error, wrong diagnosis, and litigation issues are minimal.

You can have issues with medicare anywhere in the world but how do you ensure that it is reduced to the barest, It is through clinical governance,” he said. The Chief Executive Officer of the clinic, Dr. Onyi Babatunde, added that AGCare prioritises patient experience and community outreach.

“We are committed not only to those who visit our facility but also to reaching out to individuals who cannot come to us. We will periodically provide healthcare services to underserved areas to ensure broader access to quality care,” she explained. The newly launched AGCare Specialist Clinic features state-of-the-art facilities, including male and female wards, nursing stations, consulting rooms, a pediatric unit, an operating theatre, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, delivery room, diagnostic rooms (X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan), pharmacy, emergency and accident unit, dialysis unit, and Intensive Care Unit.
